Textile artist: quilting, embroidery, felting & mixed media
Harriet Wilson
Sewing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My grandmother was an embroiderer and my mother made all her dresses and many of mine when I was a child.

My passion lies with colour and texture. I usually start with plain, home-dyed cottons and transform these with dense hand stitches to build up texture and pattern. Occasionally I add pattern with painting, stamps and stencils.

I tend to work at a small scale and many pieces are hand-sewn, though increasingly I add texture with free-machine embroidery. I also own an embellishing (needle felting) machine and I particularly enjoy adding texture to space-dyed, jewel-coloured felts.

My inspiration generally comes from the natural world, especially landscapes and plants. My work takes me to the Mediterranean and Africa, as well as places closer to home around the British Isles.
